hm.... are you sure that synthetic oil is recommended for these older engines? I remember you saying that there is blue smoke coming from the exhaust, isn't that right?

no, not from the exhaust, from the cap where you put oil, when the engine is over 3000rpm, and at idle there is a pulsating sensation

10w-40 is also recomended for the 309, always used it.missa91 a écrit :I use 15w-40 mineral, as prescribed for the simca.
And 10w vs 15w si only their peformance when cold, w is for winter.
As for the smoke from the cap, I never really understood why, some say that it is normal. Do your engines do the same?

yes, yes, but my engine is a lot different than the one you have amilo123. As I remember you haven't got a filler cap on the cylinder head. but on a hose. Isn't that so?

the fuel filter, yes.missa91 a écrit :yes, yes, but my engine is a lot different than the one you have amilo123. As I remember you haven't got a filler cap on the cylinder head. but on a hose. Isn't that so?
I don't think it is a cylinder ring problem, the valve theory on c3 seams more likely. Because between oil changes I almost never need to put any oil in.

First I think your carb is not tuned correctly because you have white ends. Then I agree with the cylinder problem. You may have a leak somewhere and that's why the spark plugs have oil and your compression ratio is quite bad with C3.

I think so too with the carb, I will try to tune it myself when the book arrives.alargeau a écrit :First I think your carb is not tuned correctly because you have white ends. Tomorrow I will put some oil in c3 to see if it improves compression.
Isn't white ends an indication of too little fuel in the air fuel ratio?

Yeah, it's a good way to know. If the compression improves (and I'm quite sure it will), you're good to open the engine!!

Re: Restoring the power of a 1986 110bhp XU92C engine
Yes but if it remains working like that, just wait. It is quite expensive to repair an engine. But anyway, there is the solution to buy another one and to repair it with time, then mounting it on your car.
