I hear a squishing sound when I press the brake peddle, when the engine is on. I know it is normal with the engine off, but with it on I am not sure.

I did the brake cylinder test described in heynes and it went well.

Could there be air in the brake system? I never replaced the brake fluid, I am not sure if it is the original one, but it has more than 10 years for sure.

Otherwise the brake works well.

Be carefull while draining: the drain screws may have suffered because of the liquid corrosion

I think the brake fluid will be black with a touch of orange due to rust...

Hello,

Recently I get a lot of black smoke when I accelerate. I changed the fuel filter, spark plugs and I cleaned the carb with cleaning spray (It didn't seem that dirty). The engine is running very smooth, the idle is steady. Fuel consumption is 15-16 l/100km (only city driving, under 20km at a time). It is cold here in this period, around -5, -10 C.

I tuned the carburettor in the fall, there was almost no smoke, the plugs looked good then, now they are black.

I would change the air filter as well, but it is from K&N and it says 25k miles between cleaning, and mine has 15k km.

The smoke appears only when I accelerate and when I start the car (the snow behind the car turns black as well). But if I accelerate it hard for a couple of times, the smoke begins to disappear, almost entirely.

The thing is fuel consumption is really high...

You should have to go to a car mechanic to check it with an appropriate aparatus. Your gaz consumption is so important, moreover with a good carburator.

i know, with a CO meter right? the thing is that everyone has injection nowadays, and I don't think anyone would do this.

I thought I got the fuel ratio right, because the idle is steady, and at 800rpm...

OK, I will try to find someone with a CO meter, but shouldn't I wait until the weather becomes warmer, 10 C at least? Couldn't it be just a fuel vaporization problem, because of the cold?

I don't think it is so important with a benzin car. The cold has more impact on a diesel car, for sure.

Yes, you need a CO meter. In France, it is also hard to find but to succeed, you need to find a small enterprise :)
