High coolant temp
I've got quite a problem with high coolant temp. The car started fine and ran fine until yesterday. So in mid drive the car started cutting out, shuttering. I thought it was the LPG system, so I continued driving on gasoline.
The problem resolved, for a little while. Then the indicator for coolant temp indicated a temp of 115 C. The heating started blowing cold air and the temp is high. When going downhill the temp goes down, but it stays at 115 C when going uphill.
The same temp of 115 C is indicated when the car is running on idle in standstill.
There is enough coolant in the engine and there is no water in the oil. Nor is there white steam coming out of the tailpipe.
Has anyone an idea what could it be? I think the engine can't run long on such temps. The engine is G1A.

Re: High coolant temp
Maybe the electric fan, the waterpump or the thermostat.

Re: High coolant temp
If replacing the thermostat doesn't yield a result, how does one make certain the water pump is working ok?

Re: High coolant temp
You have to remove it for look the turbine, but first you can check the belt.

Re: High coolant temp
So a worn belt can cause water pump failure? Wouldn't the alternator indicate failing as well? By lighting up the low charge light in the dash?
Your help is very much appreciated!

Re: High coolant temp
Maybe the alternator pulley have more grip or maybe the charge is just a little bit low and you can't see it.
But checking the belt is the first thig to do because it's also the easiest.

Re: High coolant temp
could someone please tell me the lenght of the alternator belt? I know it's 10mm wide, but i dont know the lenght. And if someone could please tell me the original part numbers for the waterpump, the whole thing, also the thermostat part number, it opens at 83 c? Is that right?
I'm going to buy all the parts and replace everything, just to rule that out, and i think it cant hurt if i do so.
Thanks in advance!

Re: High coolant temp
The problem is resolved. The alternator belt was badly worn and is now replaced. Also there was some rust collected in the bottom of the water hose connecting to the pump, that I cleaned and put in new coolant.
Thanks for all the help!

Re: High coolant temp
I've taken a picture of the changed belt. Interesting to notice is that there was no squeaking noise, nor any low charge indication from the instruments. But the belt was in absolute terrible shape.
Does anyone know the standard change interval for this belt?

Re: High coolant temp
I would say at the same moment of timing belt if you don't want to think about it

Re: High coolant temp
Know i know to inspect it at regular intervals
The chain was replaced a while back, maybe in a few 10K km it will be replaced too, if we can repair the engine. LOL
