On XU model, it is near the ignition wires. This connector is directly connected to a sensor fixed onto the crank wheel. I am not sure to give you the right translation for that part:

This is a flywheel. And to the best of my knowledge that is the sensor for crankshaft position isn't it? This one is also present on my G1A but not connected to anything. I always thought this one should be connected somewhere.

I just imagine people when they bought these cars new. They went to the dealer and asked: "isn't this connector supposed to be connected somewhere?" "No Sir, that's the way we build cars".

I have the same connector on the same place and I really don't think they ment for the simca to have a/c. It doesn't matter anyhow, I was joking. But on my engine it connects to a sensor that looks like this

I think you are right! But I always use the handheld strobe.
