Aluminium calipers from 205 GTI 1.6 are lighter than the GTI 1.9 in cast iron, and they fits in almost all 13" rims.
1.9 GTI ones can fit in 14" rims, but with the 205 GTI 1.6 rims you have tu grind a little:

As I wrote previously, buy new calipers. You can find cheap original ones on the internet.

Well, I paid €120 for a pair of Girling calipers, they were new and original. That's not that cheap but I wouldn't fit used ones you've got no history with. plus we're talking about brakes and security!! Sometimes you can get great deals and I certainly wouldn't fit used calipers even if they were free. That's not only a matter of money. I had problems with one of my old calipers, I really didn't see the point in buying used ones to replace.. used ones. These old cars don't brake like recent ones so no money is wasted when we talk about security. That's a good thing to look for good prices but that's so dumb to me to try to save money in some circumstances. My life is worth much more than €120.

Yes I agree but if it really comes from a car you know well, it is worthwhile to use a second hand part

A good caliper breaks at 200Nm generally. What about your new ones?

Yes, but you need to be 100% sure where they come from. Regarding the braking value, I have absolutely no idea! I just know that I felt a huge difference but I still have to change the master cylinder (I've got a new one in stock), I'll do that when the rear axle will arrive.

In fact,it assumes you buy this kind of part to someone reliable.the forum helps to find this kind of contact.As far as I m concerned,when I have a doubt,I don t sell this kind of parts or I throw away.
Sometime,a genuine part is better than a recondition one at low price.By now,when you say buying a new one,it is generally false:the parts are restored (even by Bendix for old références like 309,volkswagen golf,etc)

Guys you are great!!! I love this forum but man I never learned French in school, only German and English, so this is for me a nightmare. Google translate has a problem with more than half of these pages, it requires login (and i am already logged in) and then won't then translate. It's frustrating.

I replaced my fuel pump, clutch (a used set that lasted 110K km), the rear axle, the rear wheel bearings, front shocks(2 times), rear shocks, both headlights, indicator relay, steering wheel, light switch (3 times - there's the used parts gig), speedo (3 times), heating fan, both window motors, central locking, rear wiper motor and gear, exhaust, timing chain and gears, alternator belt, alternator brushes and regulator, ignition coil, ignition control unit, ignition cables
