Re: Restoring the power of a 1986 110bhp XU92C engine
I finally changed the manifold. The gaskets and screws are now all new, only the manifold itself is second hand, but it is a good one.
The mechanic worked on it for like 4 hours but he did a good job. Everything cost about 100eur. I didn't have a chance to drive it much since then, but on the trip from the mechanic to my home I did notice a difference. No more smell and the sound is much more deeper, it is really nice now:). I will have to go through a tunnel or something to really tell the difference.
btw, fuel consumption was at last fill-up 10l/100km, this was 60% city, about 30% highway and 10% mountain roads.

I am asking because I think mine are much larger than this:) I will buy a measurement tool and set them all to 0.6missa91 a écrit :0.6 or 0.7 but the difference is quite minor

Re: Restoring the power of a 1986 110bhp XU92C engine
I say on my documentation (Haynes) that it is 0.8 mm. But is there so a great influence between 0.6 and 0.8?

I also saw in haynes 0.8 and 0.6 but in the car's book it says 0.6. I have NGK plugs by the way

I finally got a chance to scan my original owner's manual.

Re: Restoring the power of a 1986 110bhp XU92C engine
Just when I thought I got rid of all of the problems with the exhaust, the pipe that goes in the muffler broke from it and now it hangs...
Tomorrow I will search for a new muffler. Is it hard to replace? Can I do it myself?

Re: Restoring the power of a 1986 110bhp XU92C engine
The middle part or the last part?
Le last one is very easy, the other a little bit more difficult. But, it can be done with good material and WD 40 ^^

Re: Restoring the power of a 1986 110bhp XU92C engine
Just the last part broke. I took it off today to have a look, and it seems very easy to replace. It is corroded inside quite badly from what I saw, and when I shake it I can hear metal pieces moving inside...thefunkyboy a écrit :The middle part or the last part?

I also took a look at the middle part, and it seems ok, but I can't really fit under the car as it has a low ride height so I can't be sure. I am thinking to replace the whole exhaust from the manifold. It couldn't be that expensive. And on an elevator it doesn't take more the 30min to be replaced by a mechanic.
What do you think? Is it worth replacing the whole system or just the last part, by me.

The last part is only necessary. Change the whole system only if broken

Re: Restoring the power of a 1986 110bhp XU92C engine
The car reaches 190 kph now No vibrations, not that much noise.
Only the oil gets quite hot. I was returning from the sea side on the motorway, cruising at 140 kph, and the oil reached almost 130C (but the light didn't came on), I has to stop for awhile for it to cool. It was quite hot outside, almost 35 I think, at 2 o'clock, so I think that was the main reason (and the speed of course...).
But today it was better, it reached 115 only, I think that it is within limits. It was colder outside, just over 30.
All in all I am quite pleased with the car now. I will soon do a dyno test.
