GTI speedometer and TU3M

If you see wires, but still have your hands clean, that's the right forum.

GTI speedometer and TU3M

Message par Thomas 309 » 21 nov. 2010, 18:32

Hello friends of 309,

I have a little (tuning-) question. In summer I bought a speedometer from 309 GTI 8V (or 205 GTI, I don´t know the difference...). In September I changed my normal Veglia to the GTI one, all is working perfect but the two additional displays for oil pressure and oil temperature of course do not work yet.
In the spring I would like to change that . And here is my problem: How can I do that?
I put the temperature sensor for oil on the place of the oil drain plug, but now I need to know how I must connect the cable to the speedo backside. And how can I connect the oil pressure sensor at engine and speedo? Is there in France to buy an adapter for engine? At the meeting in August I saw that Malik had such a thing in his car, but than it was too late to ask him how he made that...
I hope you can help me

Regards, Thomas

Hello Thomas

I shall help you to mount your Veglia clocks. I did it on my 309 Vital some time ago, and if I remember your 309 Graffic has definitely the same engine than mine.

First I want to apologize because my pictures are a bit blurry. So here's our first picture of the clocks where everything is connected and fully working.

Image

Here is a picture of the wiring loom when the steering wheel and the surround plastics have been removed.

Image

You can see 4 connectors on the picture above. A yellow 8-pin connector, a blue 7-pin connector, a green 9-pin connector and finally a white 10-pin connector. It is on the latter connector you must work to connect the oil temperature indicator as well as the oil pressure indicator.

Here is a photograph of the white connector, the order of wires goes from right to left (!!!).

Image

As you can see from the picture, the first one is not used. The second wire is where you must connect the oil pressure sensor so the indicator will work. On the same connector, use the seventh pin to connect the oil temperature sensor.

Here is a picture of the connector pins you need to use.

Image

You can buy them in your nearest Peugeot dealer (ask for part nb. 6540.92). They should still be available.

Here is another picture which shows the back and front of the oil pressure sensor. It's used on 309 SR / SRI / GTI / GTI16.

Image

Image

And then here are two pictures of the tee adaptor which you can use to fix the oil pressure sensor and the oil pressure sensor. You can directly screw it in where the original oil pressure sensor goes. So, just replace it. I bought this tee on eBay.

An overview of my car's engine bay.

Image

On the following picture you can see the wiring loom that goes to the clocks. It's the one with the red wire you can see on picture 2.

Image

Image

On the following picture they also distinguish the place above the filter where they can use the oil temperature sensor. There should be a cap which is exactly the same as the oil drain plug.

Image

Here is the wiring diagram you need.

I hope that the information I provided will be useful to you. Please don't hesitate to ask me your questions.

Best wishes,
Malik/Vital76

Hello Malik,

thank you very much for your tutorial :amen: . It is perfect :super: and helps me very much. I didn´t know to which PIN I must connect the cables from the sensor, now I know.
My only problem now is the adaptor for the oil pressure, I looked everywhere and nowhere I can find it...and I don´t have a ebay-account. Can I get such an adapter also elsewhere?

Salutations et merci,

Thomas :hello:

Hello,

I despair by searching for the adaptor. The only one I found is from Raid hp, but by using this one the producer says that the original oil pressure sensor can not be used anymore :nono: . That´s only by engines of Peugeot and Citroen so, with all other cars it is possible to use the sensor again. Is there any chance to get such a adaptor over the forum or l´amicale club in France? I mean this adaptor which is shown on the picture above and Malik has used in his car.
In Germany there is no way to get the right adaptor, I think :triste1: .

Thomas

Hi Thomas,
I had a chat with Malik and we tried to figure out a way to solve your problem. He tried to find the T but we couldn't find it. Instead, we found this, it's a gauge which is sold with a twin sensor so the sensor will have both functions at the same time.

Thank you! I´m a customer for years at Conrad Electronics. Your tip might work. I must order the adapter M16x1.5, right? Would the sensor bring correct values, and would it also turn on the warning light correctly at low oil pressure?
Then there is another problem. The pins 2 and 7 from the white plug is already occupied with a cable. What do I do that?

I don't know if the gauge is sold with the adapter but I doubt it. I think it will work because you will have two functions at once with only one sensor. So it should work properly and give you good values. I think it's worth a try.
About your cable problem, please tell me the cables numbers so I can identify them. If you've got a picture, that would help.

Hello,

the gauge is not sold with the adapter, but you can order it. But I´m not 100% sure if M16x1.5 is the right one, that´s the reason why I asked. I think I will order the gauge, it is the best compromise to the T-adapter.
How can I see what the cable number is? I mean the cables in the white plug at pin 2 and 7. You can see them on the pictures of the tutorial Malik made.

Regards, Thomas

Hi Thomas,

I'll ask him if he knows if M16x1.5 is okay because I'm not sure at all.
Concerning the white plug, if there are wires already, we need to identify them. So just look at them, there's a black code written on every cable. Let me know the codes and I'll let you know what they're doing here. If there are here, it may mean that your car is cable-ready and may be plug and play.

I have ordered the oil pressure sensor at Conrad electronics. For this I have ordered the adapter screw M16x1.5. All came 3 weeks ago and makes a good impression. When fit time and weather, I would like to install it in two weeks - I hope it works.
For the cables I could not see yet because my car still in hibernation and "packed" is.
