Hi, so as I explained in my presentation I have a 1986 Peugeot 309 GL. My pug is in restoration at the moment. body just came back from panelbeater and is soon to get a new layer of spray Load of mods and modifications are on the list. Rear light to be converted from phase1 to phase 2, coilovers, brembo max discs and pads, gti clock, gti seats, gti bumper etc. I need some help with my project. I will be constantly updating a post with my project Thanks for your help guys!!

These are the coilovers that I bought from ebay for my pug. People say that they ain't that good. I will have to wait and see. I already have in mind their replacements but due to financial problem they have to wait. Anyone ever got raceland coilovers? and how was their performance?

My phase 1 pug will be getting a rear face lift to a phase 2 gti rear lights and grill. At first it seemed impossible but it shouldn't be. Hopefully I can update you regularly on whats going on and how things are working out. anyone out there ever tried it ?

Guys what do you think about the project?? Any feedback ?

phase 1 --> phase 2 is not very easy ,you have to change parts of bodywork ( chest,back facade....)

raceland is just for the look ,it's not a very expensive but it's not very competitive

I thought the accident was quite bad from your presentation post, but actually it seems it wasn't that bad after all. Regarding the springs, I can't tell since I've never fitted such things myself. I personally like to keep my old 309 original, it's better for my money.
As for the rear lights conversion, I think it's a personal matter. Some years ago I didn't like the mark1 rear lights, and now I tend to think they look quite nice. In here, I don't think anyone ever made this conversion because you've got to change the whole hatch too, and maybe people think it's too much.
But be careful, because when we're young we want to change everything on a car and with the time we think differently, and sometimes, unfortunately, it's impossible to go back. What I mean is your car never will be a GTI, so if you really want a GTI, you should sell this one and buy one. Here a lot of people prefer to keep their car in original condition because if they've got too many modifications, they can never sell it and all the money's gone.
Plus your old mk1 309 seems to be in very good condition from what I can see, it would be quite a pity to change its history.

Anyway, I'll keep a look at your post because the restoration project seems to be very interesting! And by the way, are there many 309s in Malta?

As i can see,your peugeot is in good condition,mark 1 are getting rare,more than mark 2,i personally like mark 1 rear lights more than mark 2 but this is a matter of personal taste.
If you have extra cash,buy a mark 2 309,the prices of this cars are low now.
Like people say,its really big job to do the switch on the back taillights,you have to change entire boot,but if you have will,do it
Anyway,this car is getting rare,maybe it would be better to keep it original,at time,it will be getting value again since there isnt many of this cars around,specially in good condition.
Whatever you do,i wish you good luck,ill keep an eye on your project

The accident was bad, the chassis moved a bit my engine was moved due to the accident and i have the sump broken. I will upload a photo of the car after the engine has been striped of. Mentally i'm still in big shock and until day I will get to see it roling out of the garage i wont be fine . This was my fathers car so it wouldn't be nice to sell it as its like an antique for us I just want to change some looks. In malta there are still load of 309's and really selling at cheap price! This car is in really good condition despite the accident 80000 miles in 25 years still loads of miles!!. from the inside it's super tidy. always cleaned and cared.

I totally agree with Ace-Rimmer, you should keep it as it is, mk1 are becoming rarer and rarer and it can only increase its value over time.
A very nice project anyway. I hope your father is proud that his car is not willing to die.

I don't know what am i going to do you put me in dilemma :S. My father surely doesn't want it to die it was our very first family car bought with the help of bought parents our family is full of peugeots 306, 406 coupe, 407, 307, partner and my 309 our surname should be changed to Peugeot . that would be nice . By and chance does any one know how can I boost my 1.3L engine. I would like to get more bhp from it but I can't figure out how any ideas??

Well,you have 2 options:
1.if you have extra cash,buy mark 2 peugeot (has taillights you like) with stronger engine,maybe turbo engine which is easier to boost up the power.
2.if you cant afford to buy another 309,this one is gonna be problem becose 1.3 GL doesnt have much power.
normally,adding some better exhaust system,air intake system,ECU remap etc boosts the power but on the engine like yours,probably any modification wouldnt make much of a difference.
(I could be wrong tho)
