I didn't buy the car, because there is no point in getting it cheap and later getting an ulcer from it.

But I'm kinda sad about it, I truly had hoped it would be in better condition and I could drive it on monday... Never mind, there will be a 8valve one somewhere soon.

Is it hard to find a 309 GTi in Serbia?
Because, if I remember well, you can't import a GTi from abroad?

Re: My 309GR 1.3 '86
Yes it is very hard to find any 309 for sale. In whole Serbia there are like 50 309 for sale and maybe 3 GTis. And because here the average wage is around 300eur you can imagine what's the state of those GTIs.
And yes, you can't import anything built before 2000., only some VW with Euro3

Re: My 309GR 1.3 '86
Yesterday I had to take of my transmission in order to replace the clutch. I didn't buy any parts, so I decided to first take everything apart then go buy what is needed. It took me a good while to get everything out of the way and finally I removed the transmission with a friend. The clutch plate was worn beyond the rivets and those rivets made a grove on the pressure plate and on the flywheel. The clutch bearing was in good condition. By the time I had examined the whole situation, the stores closed. And the only guy who knows how to machine a flywheel correctly was on vacation till Monday, so I decided not to go for any new parts, but to machine the pressure plate and grease the bearing and repair the clutch disk. This whole operation cost me less than 10eur, including the soda and cookies. Now the clutch is great and I am really pleased. The next time anything happens I will buy not only a new Valeo clutch set but another flywheel.
Some pictures were taken when a friend came by, but I am not pleased with them.

Re: My 309GR 1.3 '86
When I put back the starter, I think I've made a mistake. The starter was not in the best condition, but it started on first try when it's warm outside. Now it starts too on the first try, but when you release the key (when the engine starts) there is a very loud grinding sound, which lasts for like a second. I think it has something to do with the bendix. Can you help me figure out what i did wrong?

Re: My 309GR 1.3 '86
As I think I have written, I am noticing a increased consumption of both gasoline and LPG. When I replaced the clutch disk this improved economy, but the two main problems I had with consumption were a worn vaporizer on the LPG system and the fuel nozzle on the carburetor fell into the carburetor. How the car ran on gasoline isn't clear to anyone, but it did. And the LPG had increased consumption because of worn seals on the valves that regulate how much gas is getting to the carburetor. Also, the membranes and one LPG valve were damaged, so I decided to buy a new vaporizer, this time a vacuum type. I connected it to a port I found on the carburetor. Here are some pictures.

Nice work
You seems to have some rust on your front right fender, isn't it? You planned to change it or to fix it?

Re: My 309GR 1.3 '86
Yes, it's been like that for almost a year. I always plan on changing it, because fixing it would require a lot of (now i don't know what it's called) "base material", which would eventually crack and the paint would brake. Actually I already paid the guy who is going to do it, but I have to leave the car for a few days and I haven't gotten around to it yet. It will be done at the same time I change mi silent blocks on the rear beam.

Re: My 309GR 1.3 '86
So i finally decided to take apart my brakes and replace the right front brake cylinder. I put on a used one but it was removed from a car that has been driven to past week. New brake pads. Now there is the problem which I have noticed, but I think it's in no way related, the brake pedal has a lot of travel and when i press it many times in a short while, like when parked and handbrake on, I just press the pedal 10 times in a row, the RPM gets higher. when i stop pressing it it returns to normal. What could that be? the master brake cylinder was completely replaced last year.

It gets higher or lower? Lower, that I would understand but higher...
