Re: My 309GR 1.3 '86
Yes, it was imported from Switzerland a few years back. I need to ask for a service history in order to know if it was cared for. I have a Porsche 928 S4 I want to give in exchange and the guy would give me 2000eur.

Chris, we should tell him not to buy a GTI16: they're what we call a pain in the arse... Parts are very expensive, very hard to find, and so on.

But the Gti16 is a very cool car. That engine is very nice! Yes, I know about it being complicated and so on... But I love the 309 and this is almost the best choice I got in a long while...

Well, buy a GTI 8, you won't be disappointed at all!! Parts are way cheaper and are much more easy to find. Plus there aren't so many issues.

Re: My 309GR 1.3 '86
Be nicer, I am only trying do prove that a GR is better than the Toyota in TopGear (the red one they dropped of a building)
No seriously, the money here is a bit tight, but I make it so that my 309 is always running. Maybe it isn't the most comfortable one at time to time as the shocks wear, but there hasn't been two days it hasn't been started in at least once...
I want a GTi, to care for it, drive it only in spring and summer, maybe autumn, but really drive it, not race, not burnout, not tune, keep it mint!

Yes, it is a good motivation. Today, driving a GTi everyday is very complicated. It is more a car for the WE

Re: My 309GR 1.3 '86
That wouldn't be economical... but a car is never economical. The club exists to help people maintain their car and if you can save money on each part you buy, then it's a very good deal to pay a membership. Thanks to the club, I've already saved a lot of money so I don't care about paying a membership. For example, the refurbished rear axle I will soon buy, it wouldn't have been possible without the club and I would have spent hundreds of euros.missa91 a écrit :That wouldn't be vary economical, you guys sending a part over every week
Buying a car for the weekend is a good thing, but you need to have a support and I don't say that to advertise about the club (I don't care whether people become members or not, it's a non-profit club, I don't get any money from it). And this is particularly true whe you have old cars like that. Peugeot doesn't make some parts anymore and the more time will pass, the more parts will be rare.
Then, if it's only for the weekend, I guess a GTI16 wouldn't be a bad idea but you should know that you'll spend a lot of money to make it as your head think it should be.

I get it, and I will get to paying a membership, because I've already read all the info on this site. The club is a great thing, but you have to keep in mind that I'm from Serbia and the bigger the part the bigger the postage, never mind the customs office and import tax. So for me it's only rent-able if a part is really really cheap.alargeau a écrit :That wouldn't be economical... but a car is never economical. Anyway, I'll become a member just for those cool window stickers
And last, I went to see that GTi16, sadly, the car is in great mechanical shape, electrics a bit fuzzy, but the worst is the engine. When it got hot I was enveloped in blue smoke, it smelled as I burned a liter of oil and that at no more than 4500rpm. It still drives fantastic, the corners in particular, it just asks for more gas... Very sad about the engine, the valves are quite noisy and the alternator gives out a very very strange sound.
The rear axle is good, the tires are evenly worn and there is no sound coming from the rear as if the beam would've gone bad, Visually it looks ok too. But here I can restore a beam for less than 200eur, all high quality parts, sanded, painted. Only it doesn't include removal and fitting.

Re: My 309GR 1.3 '86
Well, so that mean a thorough engine overhaul... Wiring looms are always a bit fuzzy as you say because people who own those cars tend to modify them in a very very bad way.
