Re: Restoring the power of a 1986 110bhp XU92C engine
In Switzerland they had a very strict law on cars and it was very early in Europe compared to other countries so I'm pretty sure cars ran on unleaded petrol. Anyway, even on the models with catalytic converters (so unleaded only), they tell 10° at 700 rpm so this can only be the good value.

Yes...and that was in 1977 in Norway! Only a business reason...amilo123 a écrit : aa lol, that's a good point. So anyway there were only unleaded in 1986 there? Should I trust haynes or this book...

Re: Restoring the power of a 1986 110bhp XU92C engine
ok thanks guys! I will set it tomorrow when I will install the anti-flood membrane to the carb (it arrived today
)
Also my idle speed is now 750rpm, should I leave it like that or try to get it even lower at 700 (in order to set the avans correctly). The book and haynes say that 750 is normal

Try to lower it at 700 so you'll have a perfect timing.

I will try if I find the idle mixture screw...couldn't find it last time and that's why I left it like this...alargeau a écrit :Try to lower it at 700 so you'll have a perfect timing.

Re: Restoring the power of a 1986 110bhp XU92C engine
I am having a really hard time adjusting the idle at 700, it doesn't stay steady...It seams to want to be at 850.
Anyway, today I installed the anti-flood membrane, it seamed to start better, but the fast idle wasn't set correctly (i set it at about 1200 afterwards), so I can't be sure. We'll see tomorrow, when cold again.
The timing was set at 700, but it is the same as at 750 or even 850, it rises afterwards.
Also tomorrow I am buying a new clutch kit:) from LUK (155euro), Valeo wasn't available, and the salesman says that these are the best.

Strange, my saleman told me the opposite or at least, both products are equal.
I have some news for the carburator

In order to set the idle at 700 the car has to be very hot otherwise it won't go down. Regarding LUK and Valeo clutch kits, they are quite the same and the LUK one is cheaper so go for it anyway!

Re: Restoring the power of a 1986 110bhp XU92C engine
No, here luk was 30 euro more, it was the most expensive, and it arrived in a couple of hours.alargeau a écrit :In order to set the idle at 700 the car has to be very hot otherwise it won't go down. The clutch was changed today, it is much better now. The acceleration doesn't compare. A whole day the mechanic worked on the car, it was really hard.
I also changed the gearbox oil with a synthetic TOTAL 75W90 GL-5, is that ok?
I also bought an exhaust manifold, a really good one for only 40eur, but he couldn't get the old one out. So he put some Poxilina, I don't know if you have it there or if it is called the same... It is something you put on a leaky pipe, it could withstand large amounts of heat, theoretically.
But the problem with this solution is that it now smells like chicken when the engine warms up, am I even saw some smoke from it. Not really sure from where, I will have to see tomorrow. Anyway the old manifold is impossible to get out.
Also, another thing the bothers me, is that, now at idle, the clutch makes a small squeaking sound, not that much but noticeable. When I press the peddle it disappears, and when I try to raise the peddle the sound changes to one with a lower frequency, let's say.
What do you think about this? Did the mechanic do something wrong?
BTW the whole thing was 335euro...

Re: Restoring the power of a 1986 110bhp XU92C engine
LUK more expensive than Valeo? Seriously? Well, strange!
Regarding the manifold, you need to remove it. You bought one plus these techniques are not very efficient (the one with the Poxilina - BTW I've never heard of that brand but I know what you mean) plus they are a bit useless considering you've got a replacement part. I know the manifold can be very hard to remove but you need to put a lot of lubricant if it's rusty... and a lot of effort too!
For your noise problem, did you change the bearing buffer together with the clutch?

he did put a lot of wd40, but he was afraid to force it because the screws could break....alargeau a écrit :LUK more expensive than Valeo? Seriously? Well, strange!

Yes the bearing is new, as is the pressure plate and the disk.
And the problem with poxilina is that it smells like chicken in the car now
I wonder if the chicken smell will ever go away, and the smoke to, because it is a bigger problem than before.

Re: Restoring the power of a 1986 110bhp XU92C engine
Did you at least check that there's no chicken in there??
Seriously, you shouldn't give away on the exhaust manifold. Remove it and use a lot of spray if you want to but remove that rusty part. You can even destroy it since you've got another one. Don't worry about the screws, if you use a lot of lubricant (and I do mean A LOT) and keep the manifold like that during some hours, you should be able to remove them too. A good mechanic knows how to do that sort of stuff, so don't worry.

He doesn't want to risk it. And he usually knows what he is talking about. The only other option would be to go to peugeot, but there you can't stay next to the mechanics to see exactly what's going on...alargeau a écrit :Did you at least check that there's no chicken in there??![]()

I mean one screw was already broken, before this, imagine if more break, how would I get them off? It would be a huge problem, plus a lot of money....
