Re: Restoring the power of a 1986 110bhp XU92C engine
I need an advice.
I bought a new rear stop light, on the right and now they don't mach, I think because the left on is to old and the colors are messed up?
Now I have 3 choices:
1. Buy another stop for the left side;
2. Buy another stop for the left and put some semi-transparent film on them to make them dark (like on the windows) http://www.autoaccesorii.ro/sticker_pro ... hp?id=1790" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
3. Leave the old left stop and put the film to make them both dark.
What do you guys think? Would the dark look work on this car?

Or 4. and the most expensive, buy a new left stop plus this item from ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hella-Rear-De ... =RTM742988" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: Restoring the power of a 1986 110bhp XU92C engine
Well, this is only my point of view... Sincerely, at first I didn't like the orange colour but now I just think it's very cool, it's got that old school look I really like. I would have a phase 1 309, I would definitely put two new rear lamps and add the decorative panel sold on eBay. But I would let them as they are because:
1. they will match
2. if you break the car, these things can sell at good prices if they are not modified.

If I were you, I would buy another new one. It is hard to find two rear light that matches perfectly.
It is because of oxidation but it is also a question of brand.

Re: Restoring the power of a 1986 110bhp XU92C engine
maybe its from the other type this rear light.
my dark grey xld 309 has a darker back light than the light silver xs 309 one.
the difference between them is just like this one on your car.
probably not old but simply other type,maybe. ill post pics so you can see.

I got a discount from the thing http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0273008991" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
only 60 $ shipping included, so I think it is worth it.
I did a little bit of photoshop

Very nice! Now you've got to find a left tail light...
Re: Restoring the power of a 1986 110bhp XU92C engine
question for the experts: isn't it possible to restore a stop light to its original aspect by doing some sand-paper/polish work like for plastic headlights?

Re: Restoring the power of a 1986 110bhp XU92C engine
ahh oui! Thanks! Now that i think about it, i've never tried this on the stop lights, but i've tried it on the black plastic accesory between the stop lights, as well as the door protections (normal ones, not GTI's) and it works quite good also... i used a light paint polish too...
