is this the carburator's electrovalve? how does it work?
I want to understand how these carburetors work, i find it interesting.
So is this the electrovalve (or maybe solenoid valve in english, i am not sure)? what is it's purpose how does it do its job? Also why is the first hose that comes into it from the air filter, and the one below goes nowhere?

Hi,
Yes, that's what we call in English the solenoid switch and its job is to shut off the air to the idle circuit. Th solenoid switch goes up and down depending on if your car is started or not. If it is, it's using the air from the hose that comes from the air filter and if it's not, it's using the air from outside (that's why the second hose does nowhere).

What would be the purpose of this? Isn't the air the same? And if the car is not started why would it need air?

Re: is this the carburator's electrovalve? how does it work?
I don't really know how it works. But one time, I got a trouble with that part. In fact, in a sharp bend, the engine was about to stop. I changed this part and then, the trouble was solved.

i saw that if i disconnect it the engine runs at a higher rpm when idle and the rpm is more constant, not perfect, but better.

Re: is this the carburator's electrovalve? how does it work?
Jojoe31 can try this, he also has a XU with a carburator. That's hard to remember how all of that is working. I got my last 309 with carburator for more than 2 years

Re: is this the carburator's electrovalve? how does it work?
Yes, I read the same: if you disconnect it when the car is started, it should stop. It could be an air leak somewhere and that's why the car won't stop.
Now, think twice: if the small fuel tanks within the carb do not have air entry, they can't be filled with fuel. If the air is within a "closed" system, fuel will come in, and on the contrary, if the air comes from the outside, there will be too much air so the fuel won't come in and the car will stop. If your car doesn't stop, it means there's a leak somewhere, the same leak that doesn't prevent the fuel to come in, the fuel continues to come in and your car doesn't stop.

Re: is this the carburator's electrovalve? how does it work?
i looked at it today and i saw that there is almost no air sucking from the hoses
the valve works, you can hear it click
could you ask Jojoe31 if he could give his opinion on this, because i think that this one of the reasons it consumes so much...

There can't be air sucking since it's not the purpose. The first thing to do is to remove the carb and dismantle it completely and clean it thoroughly.

Re: is this the carburator's electrovalve? how does it work?
I dont have water inside this piece of the carburator, juste a little pin with a 12V on it ( i think as you do too..)
Normally, the role of this piece is to heat up a little the carburator when the key is on a certain position (like diesel ..).
But with water at this location..i am not sure...can you tell me where the two pipes go please ? can you take a picture ?
i will look at my carburator in 2h, when i'm back home ;;)

thank you for your answers!
The blue circle is the valve in question, the blue hose goes to the air filter, and the green one goes nowhere. The blue one is on top and the green one is below.
Yes I do have a pin with 12V on it, only when the key is in the last ignition position, the position where the engine is running.
PS: I added you on yahoo messenger, I hope that's ok:)
